In addition to our physical training, we also teach daily lessons in Japanese language, address child safety skills, & increase a students sense of self discipline. By improving in these areas students gain confidence, awareness and respect for others. Each class is 30 minutes in length & students may choose any two classes each week. Children's Program ages 6-10 This program is for students ages ranging 6-10 years of age. The focus of class incorporates all of the items in the Junior Samurai class, however, dives deeper into learning about conflict resolution, character development, and partner practice of aikido techniques. Each class is 45 minutes in length & students may choose any three classes each week. |
Youth Program ages 10-14 This program is offered for all students 11-15 years of age. Students are allowed to train three days a week including two 45 minute Teen classes and one adult basic or beginner classes. The Teens class enables preteens and teens to enjoy practicing their Aikido techniques on age-matched peers with a focus on self defensive Aikido partner techniques, strength and flexibility exercises, Aikido drills, lessons in Japanese etiquette, and opportunities for character development. The Adults basic and/or beginners classes allow the student to be challenged to learn in a more traditional setting. Within the Teen's Program nominated students participate in our leadership program, the Senshin Program. Senshin members learn about how to assist junior students, receive monthly instruction on leadership skills, and are entitled to additional training privileges reserved for the serious student. |
"....... The staff at JSA teach in a way that is fun and exciting, but the kids also know that these skills are serious things to learn in life. Skills we all need to know. The entire staff is very compassionate and my boys love to learn at the Dojo!" ~K.Defeo |

We at JSA understand the importance of instilling the character traits of responsibility, respect, discipline, self confidence and excellent choice making skills in children. Our children's program teaches practical and proven self-defense methods, in addition to enforcing clear rules of good behavior to be followed in class and at home. Our patient and highly qualified instructors are trained in effective teaching strategies to teach children of all abilities. The style of martial art we teach, Aikido, nurtures cooperative behaviors in class that aid children in dealing with daily life challenges without the use of competition and tournaments. |
JSA's Children's Programs "Psychological studies have found that children in martial arts have an increased sense of responsibility, a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks, and a higher sense of self-esteem." -NAPMA |
".......... The staff at JSA has been and continues to be great role models in a time when "being cool and fitting in" are first priority. JSA stresses respect for one's self and others; self-esteem; confidence; discipline; commitment; and most important on my list; education. I strongly recommend that anyone with a child who expresses even the slightest interest in learning a martial art give JSA a try." ~Debra Geron |
